Stuffed Braided Bread

For this recipe you don't have to make fancy dough. If you have extra pizza dough in your fridge that's enough. If you don't have one, don't worry click here for pizza dough recipe.


Ingredients:

  • 5-6 portions Pizza Dough (each in size of tennis ball)
  • 2 Cups Cooked and shredded chicken
  • 3 Cloves garlic(crushed and finely chopped)
  • 1 Onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 cup Potatos ( tiney cubes)
  • 1/2 cup carrot (tiney cubes)
  • 2 Tbsp Chicken Stock ( or water)
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 6-7 coriander leaves (finely chopped, for egg wash)
  • 1 tsp water(for egg wash)
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds (topping)
* Add 1/2 cup each of capsicum, mushrooms and cauliflower if you like.
** substitute 1 tsp of chili powder with 1 tsp black pepper powder
*** Substitute garlic with 1/2 tbsp ginger & garlic paste


Instructions:

  • If your making dough, prepare the filling while the dough is rising.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Sauté garlic and onion until translucent.
  • Add veggies, chicken Stock and cook covered for 2 minutes.
  • Add chili powder, cumin powder, salt and cook for a minute. 
  • Add chicken, mix and cook until everything is well combined and dry.
  • Remove from heat and let it cool a bit before use.
  • Pre-heat oven to 200°C.
  • Into a small, bowl beat together egg, water and coriander leaves.
  • Prepare baking tray by placing baking sheet(if any) and oil the surface to avoid bread sticking to it.
  • Dust flat surface with flour and flatten one portion of dough to oval shape.
  • Take 2-3 tbsp of filling, place it on middle of flattened dough like shown in the picture below, cut edges as shown in the picture and braid. 

  • Repeat this for remaining dough and place them on baking tray.
  • Let the prepared bread rest for 15 minutes before baking.
  • After 15 minutes, coat the surface of braided bread with egg mixture generously for glazed, golden finish.
  • Sprinkle some sesame seeds on top and bake for 20-25 minutes @ 200°C.
