Roti Jala


It's Malaysian net crape made using a special funnel like cup or a squeeze bottle. 

It's easy to make and can be complimented with either sweet or spicy side dishes. Here is how to make Roti Jala ( or known as 'Jaalar' in Tamil Nadu).

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups Plain flour
  • 1/2 Coconut
  • 1 Egg
  • 10 - 12 shallots
  • 1 tbs Fennel Seeds
  • 1 tbs Turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
How to make:

In a mixer jar add shallots, fennel seeds, coconut and a glass of water. Grind them and strain first water and second water which will give you 2 cups of juice of shallots,fennel seed and coconut.
In a mixing bowl add flour, salt, turmeric powder, egg and the coconut juice that you made earlier. Mix them until smooth paste is formed. Add a bit of water if required to the batter. batter should not be too thick or too watery. Pour the batter into a squeeze bottle.
Heat a flat pan and grease. Pour the batter on the hot pan into lace pattern and let it dry. remove from heat and repeat the same for the rest. Serve hot with gravy of your choice.
